The Murph Tracker ("we," "us," or "our") is based in the United States. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use The Murph Tracker iPhone app, Apple Watch companion app, widgets, Live Activities, optional online services, and related customer support.
For privacy questions or requests, email support@themurphtracker.com.
1. Overview
Core workout tracking works without an account or internet connection. Workout information is stored on your device by default. Optional features let you connect Apple Health, pair with Apple Watch, synchronize personal workout history through iCloud, participate in Private Groups, connect Game Center, and export or share information.
We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, use it for targeted advertising, or provide it to data brokers. The app contains no advertising or third-party analytics, attribution, or crash-reporting SDKs.
2. Workout information and device storage
The app stores information you enter or generate while using it, including:
- Workout names, presets, saved custom templates, exercise targets, run settings, repetitions, sets, weighted-vest settings, and goal times.
- Active workout progress, dates, durations, pauses, accumulated run distances, completion status, manually corrected values, and workout notes.
- Workout history and information used to calculate progress, statistics, and milestones.
- Preferences such as units, competition division, optional date of birth, integration settings, and synchronization status.
- Cached group information, pending synchronization actions, and Game Center submission status when those features are used.
These records support workout tracking, recovery of interrupted sessions, history, customization, and the features described below. Apple Watch also stores workout state, synced custom templates, and a limited history of workouts awaiting or supporting transfer to your iPhone. Online account credentials are stored using the device's Keychain.
Your device and cloud backups may contain app information according to your Apple settings.
3. Location information
With your permission, the iPhone and Apple Watch apps use precise location during applicable active outdoor distance runs to calculate distance and workout progress. Tracking may continue during that active run while the iPhone is locked or the app is in the background.
The app processes GPS coordinates temporarily on the device. It does not save route maps or upload raw GPS coordinates to our servers, Private Groups, or personal iCloud workout records. Accumulated run distance is saved as workout information and can be included in optional synchronization, Health exports, or shared results.
You can change location permission in your device settings. Manual run completion remains available if you do not grant permission. Time-based and treadmill runs do not require GPS distance tracking.
4. Apple Health and HealthKit
Apple Health integration is optional and requires your permission. When enabled, the iPhone app writes completed workout information, such as workout type, dates, durations, and run distance, to Apple Health. Depending on your settings, runs and exercises may be saved separately or as a combined workout. The iPhone app does not request access to read your existing Health records.
On Apple Watch, HealthKit may provide live heart rate, active energy, and walking or running distance during an active workout if you grant the relevant permissions. Those live readings are used for the Watch workout display and are not included in the app's saved workout history, phone synchronization payloads, Private Group results, or personal iCloud workout snapshots. Independently tracked workout times and accumulated run distances remain part of ordinary workout records.
We do not sell HealthKit information or use it for advertising, marketing, tracking, or data-broker purposes. We do not send the live HealthKit readings described above to our online group service. You can revoke Health permissions and manage previously saved workouts through Apple's Health app and device settings. Disabling the integration does not erase workouts already saved in Apple Health.
5. Apple Watch, widgets, and Live Activities
The paired iPhone and Apple Watch apps use Apple's WatchConnectivity service to exchange active and completed workouts, workout notes and settings, saved custom templates, and Premium access status. This exchange does not use our Private Groups server.
Live Activities and the Dynamic Island can display workout names, timing, stage, distance, repetition progress, and goal information. This information may be visible to someone who can view your screen. You can manage visibility through the available device and Live Activity settings. Current Live Activity updates are generated locally. Home Screen widgets provide shortcuts into the app.
6. Optional personal iCloud synchronization
Personal iCloud Sync is off by default. If you enable it, the app copies completed workout history to a private CloudKit database associated with your Apple Account. These records can include workout configuration, dates, times, accumulated distances, repetitions, vest and goal settings, competition division, completion and correction status, Health export status, and workout notes.
This history synchronization does not include active workouts, app preferences, or your saved custom-template library. Private iCloud history is separate from Private Groups and is not made available to group members through this feature.
The app may also communicate with Apple to check iCloud availability, obtain an app-specific iCloud identifier, and register silent change notifications even when personal history synchronization is off. Silent notifications support refreshes; the app does not send advertising or marketing push notifications.
Turning Personal iCloud Sync off stops history synchronization but does not delete records already stored in iCloud.
7. Private Groups and online accounts
Private Groups use Supabase for account authentication, database storage, and related server functions. When you choose Sign in with Apple, Apple provides authentication information and, when available, the name and email address you authorize. This can be an Apple private relay email address. We process account identifiers and authentication tokens to establish and maintain your session.
Your online profile includes your display name, competition division, optional full date of birth, and total completed-workout count. These profile details synchronize when you sign in and during subsequent account synchronization, separately from sharing a particular workout. Birth information supports age calculations for competition features. You may omit the optional date of birth.
The service also stores group names and descriptions, invite codes and related records, memberships, owner/member roles, join dates, group status, and shared workout results.
When you share a workout with a group, members can receive your display name, account and result identifiers, competition division, optional age at the workout date, completed-workout-count snapshot, and shared workout details. Workout details can include title, category, date, completion status, total and segment times, repetitions and targets, run distance and settings, treadmill indicators, set configuration, vest settings, and goal settings. Sharing supports completed comparisons and partial or incomplete training sessions.
Group-result records do not include your Apple Account email address, full date of birth, private workout notes, raw GPS coordinates, routes, HealthKit records, heart rate, or calorie readings. Group owners can also view a member roster containing display names, account identifiers, roles, and join dates, including members who have not shared a workout.
Access is restricted through account authentication and server-side membership controls. Group members may save an independent custom template from a shared workout's setup. Copies exclude your private notes, Health readings, and personal completion history, and can remain after the original share is deleted. Other members may also retain information they have already viewed, copied, or captured.
8. Game Center
Game Center is an optional Apple service that uses your Game Center player identity and Apple's visibility settings. Connecting it can submit eligible results from existing saved history. While Game Center is authenticated, saving or changing workouts can also automatically update eligible leaderboard times and completed-workout counts. Scores may be organized by workout category and competition division.
Other players may see scores and your Game Center identity according to Apple's service and your settings. You can manage Game Center visibility or sign out through Apple's settings. Deleting local history or signing out does not automatically retract previously accepted scores. Game Center records are managed separately from your Private Groups account.
9. Premium purchases
Apple processes Premium subscriptions and payments through the App Store. We do not receive your payment-card number or bank-account details.
To verify access, restore purchases, and keep subscription status current, the app and our service process signed purchase information, product and transaction identifiers, an account association, subscription status, expiration dates, and related verification timestamps. Apple may send our service subscription renewal, expiration, refund, or revocation notifications.
Deleting your app or online account does not cancel an Apple subscription. Manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple Account subscription settings or the app's subscription-management control.
10. Exports, shared images, support, and safety reports
You can export workout history and app settings as a JSON file, import a supported export, and generate workout summary images for sharing. JSON exports may contain workout notes, competition division, and optional date of birth. Exports do not include every app record, including the saved custom-template library, and are not a complete backup.
You choose where exported files and shared images go through Apple's sharing controls. Once shared, recipients and destination services handle those copies under their own practices.
If you contact support, we receive your sender address, message, and any information or attachments you choose to include. A community report opens an editable email draft that can include group, result, and participant identifiers and your description. A report is sent only when you send the email. Private workout notes and Health readings are not automatically attached.
We use support and report information to respond, troubleshoot, investigate abuse, and protect users. Participant blocking stores an account-specific list on your device and hides relevant content there. It does not synchronize to other devices, delete shared records, change membership, or prevent another participant from viewing previously shared content.
11. How we use and disclose information
We use information to provide and secure app features, authenticate accounts, synchronize selected records, calculate progress and comparisons, verify purchases, respond to support requests, and address misuse.
Apple processes information for services such as Health, iCloud, Game Center, Watch connectivity, notification delivery, and App Store purchases. Supabase processes online account, group, and subscription-verification information on our behalf. Online service infrastructure processes connection information, such as IP addresses and request metadata, and may maintain authentication, security, and error logs to operate and protect these services.
We require service providers that handle personal information on our behalf to use it for authorized purposes, safeguard it, and provide the same or an equal level of protection as described in this Privacy Policy and required by Apple's applicable guidelines. Apple's independently operated services are also subject to Apple's Privacy Policy. Information about Supabase is available in its Privacy Policy.
We may disclose information when required by law or valid legal process, or as reasonably necessary to protect rights, security, and safety or investigate fraud and abuse. If ownership of the service changes through a merger, acquisition, or similar transaction, information may transfer subject to applicable law and the protections described in this Policy.
We are based in the United States. Information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate, subject to applicable data-protection requirements.
12. Retention and security
Device records remain until removed through the relevant app controls or app removal, subject to retained backups and separately stored copies. Online account, group, and purchase-verification records are retained while needed to provide those services, unless deleted as described below. Support messages, safety reports, and operational records are retained as needed to resolve requests, protect the service, comply with legal obligations, and address disputes.
Retention depends on the type of information and its purpose. Deleted information may remain temporarily in provider backups or operational logs until removed through their retention cycles. Records that must be retained for legal or security reasons remain restricted to those purposes. Deletion from active service records does not erase copies held independently by Apple, recipients, or other services.
We use safeguards such as encrypted network connections, device Keychain storage for account credentials, authentication, and server-side access controls. No method of storage or transmission can guarantee absolute security.
13. Your choices and deletion controls
You can use core workout tracking without creating an online account. You can also change optional integration settings and revoke device permissions. Withdrawing permission stops the relevant future access; it does not automatically delete existing records.
- Local workouts: Delete individual workouts through history. In Settings, Reset Local Workout Data removes active workouts and history from that iPhone and resets app preferences. It preserves saved custom templates and does not delete your online account or copies held in iCloud, Apple Health, Game Center, or Apple Watch. Retained iCloud or Watch workouts can return if you later synchronize them.
- Personal iCloud history: Deleting an individual workout while Personal iCloud Sync is enabled queues deletion of its corresponding cloud record for the next successful synchronization. Deleting it while sync is off does not delete the cloud copy. Manage retained iCloud app data through Apple's available storage controls, or contact us for help understanding the available controls.
- Private Group shares: Use the available result-removal controls before leaving a group if you want to remove your shares. Leaving a group, being removed, signing out, or blocking a participant does not delete previously shared results. Deleting a group removes its associated server records.
- Online account: While signed in, choose Delete Account in Settings or Community and confirm permanent deletion. This deletes your online authentication account, profile, subscription-entitlement record, memberships, and your shared results. Groups you own and their associated results and memberships are deleted for every member. This device's account session and group caches are cleared; other devices may retain cached information until they successfully refresh or their account session is cleared. Local workouts, saved templates, personal iCloud history, Apple Health, and Game Center records remain separately managed.
- Sign in with Apple: The deletion flow supports fresh Apple confirmation to revoke the connection. If Apple confirmation is unavailable, account deletion can still proceed; you may need to remove The Murph Tracker from Sign in with Apple in your Apple Account settings.
- Apple Health, Game Center, and external copies: Use Apple's relevant controls for Apple-held records. Remove exported files, shared images, backups, and recipient copies through the service or destination holding them. Our local reset and online account deletion do not remove these separate copies.
For privacy requests or help with deletion, email support@themurphtracker.com. Depending on the law that applies to you, you may have rights to access, correct, obtain a copy of, or delete personal information, restrict certain processing, or appeal a privacy-request decision. We may need to verify your identity before acting. We will respond as required by applicable law and will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
14. Children's privacy
The Murph Tracker is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through our online services, contact support@themurphtracker.com so we can investigate and delete that information as appropriate.
15. Changes and contact
We may update this Privacy Policy as our services or legal requirements change. We will post the revised policy at themurphtracker.com/privacy and update its effective date. When required, we will provide additional notice or obtain consent before materially changing how we use personal information.
